Local Anesthetic
When only one area of the mouth needs to be numbed, we commonly use local anesthetic (administered via injection) to numb the relevant area. This is common for minor procedures such as cleanings. If dental anxiety is due to a fear of pain, local anesthetic can effectively reduce your anxiety.
Oral Sedation
Patients with more severe anxieties can sleep through their entire visit. Sedation dentistry does not have to be complicated. Halcion, a common sleeping pill, leaves patients tired and more susceptible to anesthetic. When you wake, your procedure is over and you are ready to be taken home by a companion.
Nitrous Oxide
Otherwise known as ‘laughing gas,’ nitrous oxide is very effective at reducing anxiety and pain. Laughing gas takes effect and wears off very quickly, which gives Dr. Perez-Medina a high level of control over your sedation level. It can be used during a variety of procedures.

Dr. Nancy Perez-Medina has been in practice as a periodontist for over 25 years. She is an experienced periodontist known for her outstanding honesty, clinical skills and compassionate patient care. A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Dr. Perez-Medina grew up in a humble environment always dreaming of becoming a dentist. She attended the University of Puerto Rico for her Bachelor’s degree in Biology, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. After completing her undergraduate, she earned her degree as Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Puerto Rico Dental School where she graduated in the top of her class.
